i have a 05 cummins with 46000 miles, when its cold outside, below 40 degrees it fires right up the warmer it gets outside the harder it is to start, when its about 60 degrees near impossible, it takes 3 seperate times to cranks to fire up, i have a scanner no codes, i have live data and watched the fuel pressure and it seems good which leads me to believe its not the lift pump, i am aware of the grid heater it runs fine once started , have not noticed any power loss or bad fuel economy has tons of power, the only other thing i notice wrong about the motor is sometimes when gettin on the throttle hard and when i shift close to redline it seems like it sticks and wants to keep the rpms high instead of letting the come down, like the throttle sticks? i dont understand whats wrong i have read oan some other forums of the same problem of hard starting, but no answers, i have a friend with a 01 cummins, and when the motor barely turns over for a split second and it fires right up everytime, anyone have a similiar problem or have suggestions thanks rodney

The only thing that I could even suggest is that maybe your injectors are dirty. If you're not getting enough fuel, then maybe it will still ignite with the super-dense -40 air where as when it's 60 and the air isn't as dense it's having to crank longer to get more fuel into the cylinders before it will fire. Just a complete shot-in-the-dark theory.

depending on on how long it sits after shut off, sometimes it will start right up, i bought this truck midway through winter thats why i didnt notice this problem, its started happening in winter occasionally if the engine was a little warm , but not as bad as it is now that the temp is going up, i hate to see what it is going to be like wants it gets to 80

yeah its should be under warranty, they want 150 to diagonose the problem if it is a motor problem that will cover everything they said, but if not im out 150 and something gives me a good idea they will give me the run around, i imagine they will be either be like we couldnt find anything wrong, or they want be able to duplicate the problem or they will say its not covered because of the exhaust and intake
