Default 1999 Dakota cluster issue

The cluster used goes out sometimes. The gauges all stop working then all the warning lights come on and used to go back to normal but now it's like this all the time turn signal and high beam indicators work but the milage doesn't show. Anyone have any ideas on what to check for or is the gauge cluster bad?

Check the connections on the back of the cluster. Likely one of 'em is loose.

Make sure there is no corrosion on anything, plug it back in, see if anything works better.... May just be a bad cluster.....

It likely is the cluster. Could be a bad solder joint though.
The turn signal and high beam indicators are hard wired. They should always work.

The gauges, "CRUISE", "LOW FUEL", "CHECK GAUGES", etc. are all computer driven from data provided by the CCD bus.

Thanks I'll take another look but everything looks good to me. Do you know what all clusters will work? Mines a 1999 5.2L 5 speed?

98/99/00 will work. I believe 96/97 will also but I would double check the connectors first. 01 and later with not work.

Is the ram cluster of the same years the same? Also does it matter 5 speed or auto?

Trans doesn't matter. I don't know if the ram clusters are the same. The visual side is the same but the mounting might be different. Rams also have a Diesel cluster which obviously won't work.

Took it apart and checked it again plus took some pictures. Everything looks fine. I found a guy local that selling one out of a Durango. It has the automatic shift indicator does that just unscrew out and I put the blank in its place?
