Backspacing
Based on what Littlefoot and Firemedic said, I'd just go with anything between 4 5/8 and 6". The absolute BEST thing I think you could do would be to take it down to a local tire shop (that deals in rims too) and have them CheckFit a rim and tire combo size that you are considering. Make them think that you want to buy from them exclusively (bad, I know) and you can probably get it done for free! Used to work at a tire shop and even IF it MIGHT lead to a sale, we'd do it. I've done more than my fair share of CheckFitting.
I have 4.5" bs rims now and there is no way I could run 35's on them with out tearing up my fender. I also just got my 5.5" bs and 35's and they just hit so I would say 5.5" to 6" bs anything less than 5.5 will rub the fender and anything more than 6 will rub the control arm.
Hmm, I wonder what the point to them making the backspacing so short is? The backspacing I need is available in 18 and 20 inch wheel
Backspacing is one of those things that alot of people use as a reference without also considering the wheel width, much like the first number of a tire size (i.e. 315/70r17)... the 315 does not mean it is a35" tire without also considering the second number.
I would say that you should look for something just a hair less than stock (assuming they are 8" wide, same as stock). Myabe a 17x8 with a bs of 5.5"
I am pretty sure stock is 6"bs, or atleast that is what I think mine are (2007 forged alluminum ones)?

Thelarger diameterwheelsmay have the backspacing you are looking for, but they are also probably 10" wide so they aren't gonna be much better. The wheels that you are looking at (assuming 17" is your only choice to fit existing tires) will fit best in the 17x8 4.5" b.s. They will most definitely rub (pretty much guarantee it), but out of the choices available they are your best bet. The 17x9 4.75bs will make the tire stick out .25" further than the 17x8 4.5bs, the bs is less on the 8" wide wheel but the less width on the wheel more than makes up for it. Backspacing is a funny thing, just going by that number can get you in trouble. The backspacing number means nothing if you don't alsoconsider the width of the wheel. Offset on the other hand is the measurement of the distance between the mounting surface and the center line of the wheel, so this number can be used without taking the wheel width into consideration.

Na. Yours barely rub on the control arms, right?I betthe pther people you are talking about either have a different tread pattern, or there is a difference in the actual measurig width of the tires (even though they are called a 12.50), or the people just don't realize they are rubbing.
