Normal Engine Temps
Does anyone know what the normal engine operating tempreture should be? I seem to remember that it would run up to around 189 degrees or so. That was without towing anything, just running around light.
Lately I've noticed the temp hovering around 196 degrees. I checked the radiator fluid level and it isn't drasticly low, just maybe a tad. I've just turned 60,000 miles, hard to imagine that the fluid has lost its cooling ability.
What sort of temps are ya'll seeing.........those with a gauge of course.
Thanks

My 3500 temp. runs aroung 190 degrees just crusing light no load. When i am towing my 44' at stop and start it goes up to about 210 and then a soon as it goes to OD ,it comes down to 199-200 degrees.
I know on a gasser the stock t stat is at 195
the pic below can be used as an aux rad for oil, atf, powersteering etc etc. think this one kicks on at 175 but have seen some with adj temps and manual switches.
just plugs into the existing rad (doesnt replace). 500 cfm.. a tranny one would be prolly good for when you tow that house behind it...
as for the rad fluid ive heard that the oem is good for 60k but also heard 100k, as long as you still have some in your spill over youre not running low. do you have a 50/50 mix or 60/40 (which way?) and have you recently topped your coolant off with antifreeze and water if so, was the water distilled water or did you use tap water? tap water is bad in two ways, they say water thats gone through a water softener is bad because of the salts and that if you have hard water (we have really bad hard water in south texas) that will gunk up your rad... if you do go to change it watch out for air pockets cause thatll cause it to jump...

180-220 is normal. anything more and you need to back out, or lighten the load.
besides, if you look at the cooling system on our trucks is it way more than what is needed. I believe our radiators are rated for something around 600-700hp.

When i am towing my trailer on the highway cruising at 70--75 MPH my temp is at 200 Degs.
I don't force my truck to pull the load, half throttleand it pull the load very comfortable. With goose neck you don't feel the trailer behind the truck.its a pleasure towing with the truck.

i posted a while ago on a thread where a diesels fan clutch broke and i put up an e fan that pulled 6,000+ cfm (3k is enough for a gasser) but got a lot of bad responses from the glowpluggers here saying it isnt good for a diesel, just didnt understand it. itll also free up a small amount a torque and have heard up to 20 hp since its not having to turn that fan clutch.. ill look for the fan again.
edit..
this wasnt the fan but itll do 6k cfm, cant imagine a diesel would need more

this one is about 550.00
they also have a veh specific fan that goes from 3k to 5500 cfm,
