These bitching about oil price threads get old. You canpoint outthe many reasonssupply/demand, low interest rates, weak dollar, worldwide demand, etc, etc til you're blue in the face and some people just won't eversee it. You can lead a horse to the water but you can't make him drink it.

As for the trucker protest in D.C. same ole same ole. Just as rediculous as the trucker shutdown that supposedly happened at thefirst of the month. Theshutdown accomplished just whata lot of us knewit would. The same thingas every other shutdown that's happened over the past 30 years.Nothing.And nothing will come from this either. No-onein washington'sgonna pay any attention to a bunch of whiney truckersdriving around in circles. They're just wasting fuel for nothing. Theycouldaccomplish so much more byjoining OOIDA and getting involved politically. But truck drivers as a group have a lousy track record of influencing or running to the polls in droves and politicians know it.

I hope the truckers make a dent and stick to their guns. I was just talking to a guy over the weekend who is a OTR trucker who has parked his truck because he was loosing money driving it. He has I think it was a 2K a month mrtgage payment on it an dhe's delivering newspapers or something in a van to make ends meet.

I keep hearing this whole supply and demand thing, but I'm sorry, I just aint buyin it. I heard the same thing from Enron years ago with the whole power grid thing. I think this whole thing boils down to CA$H, and that's all there is to it.
Agreed!

But remember since everything we get is from foreign countries that mean the dollar has to be converted to that countries currency. So since the value of the dollar is falling it going to take even more dollars to pay that bill now in foreign countries... What need to happen is the value of the dollar to rise again. But first we need to bring back our industry from the foreign countries to help increase the dollar...

Gold is looking might good but its a bad thing...

yep thats pretty much the path he seems to want to take. that trucker strike earlier this mo didnt work because nobody participated in it... of course a few arent gonna change, but its the ***** willows like yourself that wont get in the pool until everyone else has. BTW its not just owner ops that are hurting, yeah its hurting them directly but the companies with company drivers pass the cost on to the buyer who then passes it on to US..

also over the last year crude oil has gone up 80% yet automobile fuel has only gone up 33%, this is because we are offsetting with using our reserves (basically like if you get a lower paying job and using your savings account to pay for the shortcome), well once our reserves are at dangerously low levels gas will jump

one more thing dieseljunky, what price will diesel be at for your to protest?

news just said expect 40-50 cent increase in the next 5 weeks....

Right, they can do as they want.I never said they couldn't. But they're wasting their time. I am a driver.A longtimeOOIDA member who actuallysendshard earnednon-tax deductable checkson a regular basis to their WashingtonPAC fund. I do vote. I know who my represenatives are and what they're doing. Dollar to a donut that 99% of the guys riding around washington in the protest don't and aren't involved. They think holding a sign and blowing an air horn is good enough to get change. It ain't.Protests and shutdownslike these have been tried and tried -and never changed anything. They're about as big of a joke as the hippie freaks that protest at G-8 summits etc, no-one cares... And a lot of them willingly take it up the rear running cheap freight to boot...

any two year old can tell you that not everyone can run a full well paying load, and not everyone can find a backhaul either...

but so again, what price would diesel have to be for you to get your feet wet?

Trucker shutdowns and protests are nothing new. They tried that in the 70's and 80's andthey accomplished, nothing... I never said there weren't legitimate gripes. I only said it's a fool's errand to have a protest and expectanything good to come of it. Been there and done that. It doesn't work. Never has and never will. You have to work with the system you've got and that means being involved politically. Do you think any of those politicians in washington are looking out their windows and quaking in their boots at the thought of massive trucker turnout at the polls to toss them out? Of course not. They're laughing their comfortable asses off...

You fall into that "backhaul" gameand you'll always be running cheap...

The price of diesel is what it is.

I don't like paying $100 to fill up but I'm not gonna waste mytime holding a sign begging for government help.

as I agree with youDieseljunky it probably wont do much. I havent seen anything come from sending money to someone to fight the cause in congress either. Yeah they may get a few thigns through but they wont do anything with fuel. that would be taking money out of their wallet.

Now for this thing to work they need to do it until they get results. 1 day isnt much. but if business is interupted for a week. than people would look at it for sure.
