Default 6.7 EXHAUST

o.K. I just bought a new 08 with the 6.7 I know that every one says that you can't do any thing with the exhaust, cause of the stupid emitions crap, but I was lookin under my truck today and had an idea! It looks like I can take the cat out and bolt the (dpf) in its place, then run a straight pipe from there out?[sm=confused06.gif] Wandering if anyone else has thought of the same thing? I just want to hear some good exhaust from this thing, and the jake also, or any info on some thing else that will work.

I don't know if you will ever whear the exhaust brake, it works way differently from the way a big rig jake brake works.

Dont know if anyone has removed the cat only, try it and let us know what happens. As for the Exhaust brake, it is not a "Jake" brake, full name Jacobs brake, for the guy who invented it. The Jake brake works inside the head, not the exhaust. So, I guess the correct nomenclature would be "Cummins Brake."

My 'Jake' brake is made by Jacobs it's as real as they get for our trucks sunshine

As for the 6.7 exhaust. Pulled the muffler and ran straight pipe back on ours...a tad more noise ~ nothing to write home about.

No, you cannot remove the cat and leave the DPF in place. If you did, the DPF would fill with soot in no time. The cat is what burns the unburned fuel to raise the EGT high enough to burn off the accumulated soot in the DPF.

I left my muffler in but cut the cat and dpf out and it is still as quiet as berfore-only change is when it is regen mode and it sounds a little better. I was told the downpipe is restrictive also- will find out when the h&s kit comes this week.

Just to be clear for everyone, the Cummins has an exhaust brake, Az2500 is right about the valves openning to help slow the vehicle. I was informed many years ago that I couldn't have a jake brake in a TDi Jetta

Firemedic- How's it coming with the Delete so far? Have you figured out how to eliminate the codes yet?

The edge takes care of that, but can't get rid of regen mode. I ordered the h&s kit should be here this week- no more regen supposedly. Ill post when I put it on. The homeade works great if you don't mind regen- I can drive without any codes.

Well I would like to cut all that crap out from underneith, but only got 500 miles on it and with 100k warenty I'd hate to waste it on a little exhaust upgrade! Oh yah I keep seeing you guys talking about "regen mode", what's that?[sm=shootshoot.gif]How bad does it effect the performance, and fuel milageof the truck?
