I can't speak to the other years, but like I said I can get 19 - 20 with my truck if I drive right and use good fuel.

How do you maintain 600 miles per tank and is it possible to keep diesel going on for 600 miles but my question is that how did you do it?
Okay, on the highway you can push 600 miles out of the tank. The most I've gotten on a completely highway run was around 620 - 630 when the fuel light came on. Filled up around 30 gals. That's about 21 MPG and is pretty consistent with where I normally am. On the highway, I'm pretty conservative and try to get mileage.

Now, in my day to day driving, which is a 50/50 mix of 45-50 MPH local roads and stop and go, I can get 500 out of a tank. That's around 16.5 - 17 for day to day driving.....and I don't drive that easy.

Now, how to do it.

First, get a set of gauges.

Two important ones for mileage: Boost and EGT.

For decent mileage you need to keep these numbers in check. 550 - 650* for the EGT's on level ground and 6 - 9 psi of boost. Any more than those and you're buring more fuel.

If you are running higher EGT's but gettinglow boost, you are lugging the engine and burning fuel.

If the boost is high, but the EGT's are in check then your are running too high of an RPM.

Keep the RPM's in the 1700 - 2000 range and you'll get the best mileage.

For me 2000 rpm, w/ 3.73 gears is about 72 MPH.

Righ tnow I'm happily getting between 15 and 17 MPG depending on where I'm driving. The 17 was a lot of highway. I get about 420 miles out of 24 or so gallons and I hafta fill up every week.

Sucks ... [:@]

i prefer to fill up from 1/4 of gas. that way i can feed the engine with more fresh gas.

I get around 16mpg around town, with my tq.conv slipping and having a fairly heavy foot. I get 500-600 miles outta a 35gal tank and fill about every 2 weeks. Lately been driving slower than my grandma and just taking the truck when I need to....still much better than my old 4.7

"I get 500-600 miles outta a 35gal tank and fill about every 2 weeks." 2 weeks that is what i want and i barely drive with a heavy foot. full tank in my hemi gets around 245 miles and it is kinda low to me. i pay 145 per week cuz i have to fill'er up twice a week. 145 dollars is like paying diesel gas that last about 2 week.

I did a comparison a few weeks back....I didn't feel like diggin back through the posts or redoing the math, but....

When you break the costs down and add it all up the difference is about this:

.01 per mile in advantage of a diesel.

It's about $0.27 per mile for a gas truck w/ average numbers and about $0.26 per mile with a diesel.

Now add up you initial costs, trade in, etc. and it take approx 100K - 120K miles fora diesel to cost less to operate than a gasser.

If you are going from a vehicle that is paid for.......well, then you can figure that out.

Hope that helps.

04 HEMI 04,

What grade of gas are you useing 87, 89 or 92? When was the last tiem you use a good additive to clean up your injectors? I've learned it can pay to run a good additve in your tank once or twice a month to bring your mpg up that can be lost with out any noticeable power loss.
