), check out Duracoat. They make all kinds of different coating, in different colors and such that you can do or you can have a pro do it in any color combo you want. The Duracoat bake on, pro-type finishes are suppossed to be really durable.Or if you want a temporary coating that you can leave on or strip or do any way you like, try Bowflage. We use it on the rifles and it works great. Pretty durable (over shorter periods) and keeps the rust off really good.
any recommendations? i was also looking at the FN SCAR in .308, but no telling when it'll actually be released to public...

What's it gonna be for?
Is it gonna be toy or does it have an intended purpose?
Personally, I like simple guns. The easier to operate and maintain, the better. I don't really buy into the latest, greatest, gotta have it guns.
My favorite hunting rifle is my old Remington 742, chambered in .30-06. It's dead simple for a semi, it's breaks down like any other Remington shotgun doee. It's reliable and it's light and short enough to beat through the woods with.
Now, if you want soemthing for a home defense type gun, I say STAY AWAY from high power rifles. They go through everything and end up in places that you don't want rounds going. A good 12 gauge pump, w/ an ATTACHED light and / or laser, loaded with #1 Buck is perfect. A lot of folks like 00 Buck, but that tends to penetrate all the way through and then some. #1 goes deep, but tends to not penetrate all the way through.
For a home defense pistol......easy .45 ACP. Again, it has enough pentration, but doesn't keep going through everything and into places you don't want it.
Long range gun.....Browning A-Bolt II with BOSS system. Use any kind of ammo and you can tune the barrel to the amm rather than finding the ammo that the barrel likes. Mine is a .270 and drives tacks using just Remington CoreLokt ammo. You don't need a heavy barrel, unless you plan on firing lots of rounds at a time (like varmint hunting), then you want the heavy for the heat dissipation.
My next gun is gonna be a Springfield SOCOM II. That is just a sweet looking gun and it has no purpose other than I want one.
as for what i'm looking for, it would be for fun. and of course for the upcoming apocalypse
for hunting i use a remington 700 vtr chambered in .308. very accurate, especially for a shorter barreled rifle. also, before any ban hits, i'd like to have one "badass *** kicker" that not every tom dick and harry have sttashed in their closet, i.e. the ar-15 (want something kinda rare, though 'rare' is not really the right word). home defense is not an issue at this stage cause i only spend a few hours per week in my apartment as is it, since i have to stay on my location for work. when it does become an issue, i will have a shotgun. as for a wishlist rifle, the chey-tac is up on top. too bad it costs 11 grand[:@]

While I'm not one of these "must have guns for the apocalypse" type guys, I do believe that there are few guns (or calibers) that should be in any gun personscollection.
.22 - no explanation needed there. Cheap, accurate, highly available and perfect for little critters.
.12 gauge - again, no real explanation needed.
9mm - THE most available rond in the world. It's everywhere and it's effective
5.56mm - Widely available, though limited to Western type countries
7.62x39 - i.e. AK ammo - again, one of the most widely produced type of ammo in the world.
Beyond that, rare types are for specific purposes and ammo is much less available.
I have this belief.......lots of toys that use the same type of ammo.
