First off, they won't give you anything for your diesel right now. I'm an auto dealer and that's the last thing we want on our lots right now because they are so slow moving with fuel prices. So you'll end up paying way too much difference to trade for a truck that won't pull nearly like your diesel will and will get a lot worse fuel economy especially when pulling a trailer. Keep your diesel, sounds like he is just looking for an excuse to get a new rig although I have no idea why.

Don't get rid of the diesel! You will regret it time and time again. Not just because of mileage, but the difference in power etc. Tell him to buy a chip for his diesel, or buy a 5.9L mega if room is the issue.
