it would be best to have a look at the block # to be sure if you find one your interested in.

i believe the 53 block was from 98- some 01. not all in that year range were the 53.
04... nope, cheeper to buy a whole truck. axles, frame, tranny are all beefed up. If I were to do it again with what I know now, I'd get an '04.5... you can still lock out the OD on that year, the '05 you cannot but it has a tow/haul mode, the '06 had both but different front end.

locking out OD means you stay in 3rd... tow/haul puts you in a mode where the shifts come later, torque converter locks & unlocks differently... sooner & later depending on whether you accel or decel., it's actually pretty good, the only downfall is on the '05's you cannot lock out OD. you can add a switch to do it, which I'll install eventually but for now it's a pita when climbing hills & you want it in 3rd period.
