Default High idle

I am new to the ctd world. I just got my first ctd in Janurary, and have been reading in this forum since the day I got my pick-up. I have got a lot of great info. from everyone here. I have a 03/2500 with auto. I went to the dealership to get the high idle set, but they said the ecm computer had been upgraded so they could not do it unless I changed it back. Does that sound right, or do they not know what they are talking about?

Not sure, try a different dealer. Most dealerships have no clue about the Cummins.
Do not idle long periods of time with the trans in park. Dodge trans do not circulate fluid in park, so it's a good way to burn up the trans. Put it in nuetral. Aftermarket valve body's usually address this issue.

Does you truck have an aftermarket ECM or power pack? (Chip)
The 04+ trucks can have the fast idle controlled by the cruise switches.
Don't know if it works on the 03 though.

With the truck idling in park press the Cruise ON switch followed by the SET switch.
Idle should increase to 1100. Use the ACCEL and COAST to up or down idle speed.
I think 1600 rpm is max.
One again don't know if it works on 03's

Default not sure

I am not real sure if it is chipped or not, I guess I need to find out. I read on this forum that the 03 and on had the high idle using the cruise control method, maybe i need to do more research. I know that when the outside temp. is low enough that it will idle itself up to 1k.

I have an 05 and i tried the cruise control method, but it didn't work. im assuming he meant that if you had an 04 and up with a chip, then you can high idle via the cruise control. but i dont know much, so i could be wrong.

High idle is available no matter what software you have in the truck, find another dealer...

I don't think they set a speed its all programmed into the software.
In real cold weather they should automatically idle around 1100 which is probably about right.

So, I called another dealership, they told me that maybe they could do it, it depends on what software is in it, from what I understand, I should be able to do it no matter what software is in it, Is it possible that the only two dealerships around here don't know what they are doing?
