Question 96 Cummings idling problem

When idling in nuetral, everythings fine, however when stopped at redlight, idle is up and down. Also when backing up, and I brake fast, engine will die. Any suggestions, only 76,000 miles.

Maybe you just need to adjust the Idle speed.
What RPM does it read in gear?
BTW its a Cummins not Cummings engine

Default Idle

Park and Neutral it idles at about 800rpm, but in drive it flucuates between 400 - 800 rpm. Something is pulling down the engine.

nothing should be pulling down the motor the ctd should be able to handle that ac dont you think..... have the idle speed set up govenor in pump is not reacting fast enough is usually what i have seen due to low idle

I could be wrong, but I think the idle should be set with trans engaged, not neutral.

I on pupose reduced my idle speed to 500/550 and it is steady.
