Morning all,

My friend has a 99 2500 cummins and his muffler has rotted through where the tailpipe connects. Was wondering is there are any reasons (aside from the noise) that we can't just cut the muffler out and put a piece of exhaust pipe in there.

Has anyone done this? Any problems with back pressure or exhaust temp?

Any help or advice would be appreciated!

my buddys got a 250powerjoke and got it straight piped when i got my dak straight piped aswell, and he didnt really lose any backpressure, and his truck still runs like a champ (cough ford)

 

Mines been straightpiped for at least 4 years. No problems.

 

Diesel's don't need backpressure like a gasser. The less backpressure, the better.

Cut that muffler outta there and you'll be fine.

24V's sound AWESOME strait piped......as long as you don't have a significant other that rides with ya often.

 

My 24v is straight piped my wife wanted it that away so she dont have to hear me talk. lol

Forgot to mention, check the pipe size. Mine was 4" into the muffler, 3" out. You will probably need to run 4" all the way back. It's easy, just get a 45* elbow for right over the axle, and the exhaust will exit right at the rear corner of the truck, just like oem.
Mine was 4X4 so there was plenty of room, not sure about 4X2's.

 

Will do. His is a 4x4 as well so I will run the 4" all the way and the 45* over the axle.
