Default CP3 Pump leaking??

05 ram cummins, just replaced my fca with a new one ran good till i went to the store, got out and noticed diesel leaking bad out of the engine compartment. Go home and opened the hood and saw and opening(1") hole just to the side of the fca? Is there a plug that blew out? Anyway the truck will sit for now, I guess i need a new cp3 pump? Anybody know what was in that hole? Can a new plug be installed??

I hate to tell ya, but the pump is destroyed.

Let me guess, this is what you're looking at?.....

I bet if you go under the truck and look up, the bottom plug is gone too.

When one of those plugs blows, it's shot. No if, ands or butts.....

Just replaced one for a customer about 2 months back for the same thing.

Let me know if you need help getting the pump.

Here's what his looked like before I replaced it.....

NO!

DO NOT RUN THE TRUCK LIKE THAT.

What you did is blow high pressure fuel into the low pressure side. The low pressure side of the pump is all the fuel used to lubricate and cool the pump.

With that plug blown, there isn't sufficient fuel pressure to lubricate the pump.

You can try putting the plug back in, but within a few miles it's gonna blow right back out.

What will happen is the pump will seize and, remember that it's driven by the timing gears, you end up with much larger carnage.

DO NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK LIKE THAT.

Man, you didn't have to remove all that stuff.

The only thing that needs to come out is the fan shroud and the belt, unless it was an 03 - 04 truck and had the kickdown bracket over it.

Here, this is all it takes to get the pump out and the new one in. Just follow the link and go to the 3rd one from the bottom.

If you have something like that, just give me a holler and I'll get you strait.

No sense in re-inventing the wheel when someone's already done the work for ya.
