Default CTD buying help requested

So here is what I have from the surface:
03 CTD quad cab 4x4 290k miles

They are asking 5100. Is that good or am I about to be had? What else should I be aware of?

No takers? I figured it would be like over in the 2nd Gen RAM threads where they tell you watch out for blown plenum gaskets and whatnot. I mean dang, is 290k a lot of miles for a diesel (I know less about diesels than I know about Magnums and I know nothing about Magnums)?

It's getting up there mileage wise. They are scheduled for their first overhaul at 350K miles, depending on how it's been used.

Shoot me a PM with the VIN number and I can check it out for you.

I owned an early 03 and the injector(s) went at 99k. I wound up trading it in for a gasser but it was scheduled for injector replacement under the 100k warranty at the time I traded it in. I'd check to see if they are original injectors. Also had a battery blow at about 90k. Also had a wire go under the main fuse box. That gave me a headache. Took it to the dealer and they were able to trace the bad wire. Other then that the CTD was great. I wish I never traded it in. Thinking about going back to diesel but I hear the new 6.7 has issues.

I'm looking at a 05 with 214xxx and while it does worry me not knowing the maintenance history it's the tranny that worries me it is a auto. So how can i know if it has been rebuilt what type of converter is in there can a stock one or aftermarket be identified or valve body be identified or felt?
and the engine what are tell tell signs of condition wear power losses?
guess i'll start learning more.
any tips will help.
How does one truck rack up that many miles 40000 per year On tour of some sort?

Thanks to Coal Train for the research. I think I may stay away from this truck. The story he gave me doesn't match up with what was found. I though that price was a little low. The tranny is probably about to die along with the turbo or something. My search continues.
