grid heater
is there a fuse for the intake grid heater??i work nights and it is in the 30's and the volt guage is not fluctuating any more like the grid heater is not working. if it is not working will it hurt anything?? the heat builds up and i have heat in the cab in a matter of 5-10 minute, but the volt guage does not go up and down like it did last year. any help??.

no fuse, the wires come straight from the battery post to the coils, and then to the grid, it wont hurt anything, may cause slow starts when cold. i dont have any grids and when i was in wyoming, the worst that would happen when it got 20-30 below, it would start and stall once or twice,
if your IAT sensor is failing it could cause the grids not to work, otherwise the computer controls them, to test... there are two small terminals on the solenoids, one will be ground, the other will be 12v signal, make sure the grounds are good, and you can jump the other terminal, it should click, then you should beable to feel heat on the grid block after about 30 seconds or so, if that works, there is something wrong with the electronic controls

what is the IAT sensor? i thought mine is all mechinical, no computer, dont for get i am diesel stupid,ha ha ha .i just know the volt guag is not fluctuating like it used to. but if it wont hurt anything.!!! it starts fne and runs fine.

it definatly wont hurt anything, but there are a few things that are computer controlled, even tho the engine is mechanical, your computer is located on the passenger fender, the IAT is the intake air temp sensor, and controls the grids acordingly to air temp

two soleniods on left fender, both are hot batt voltage on the top, with two little terminals on both,( like a ford starter soleniod), where do i jump,or do i jump both together, like a ford ,? the wires that go to the grid are not hot even with the key on, -- if iam looking at the grid,,-- wich i think i the square box looking thing under the intake pipe coming from the air to air cooler on the left side (drivers side). is this correct?? where is the IAT located as i see a couple of sensors there.

jump the small wire, that is not the ground, not sure but i think its an orange wire, you are correct on the grid location, the sensor is located next to the grid on the intake plate, nbut i cant remember which one it is
ok so jump the small wire that is not the ground, ok where do i jump it to?? wich soleniod, or both, there are two there, both look the same,, i saw the sensor that u are talking about i think, how do i check that? shouldnt i have powr at the two big wires at the grid?? thanks again

got up this morn 33deg out side and truck is in a unheated garage , and the damn grid wont come on,
. ohmed the iat sensor it ohms within spec,both soleniode on left inner fender are hot on top, but the two big wires that go to the grid are not, baffled!! mike
