Front Differential twisted forward??
I got a 1995 (1 ton) dump...While plowing yesterday, I was turning around and cut the wheel to the left, I heard a bang. I stopped plowing immediately and took it out of four wheel. I was driving the truck home knowing that something was not right. as i drove, the steering wheel felt weird..It wanted to pull to the left every now and then..I got the truck home, and took a quick look underneath, The front driveshaft from the transfer case was hanging and the u-joint was missing the caps on the front diff. side.. I crawled under the truck, and notice that the bolts that hold the u-joint onto the differential where sheered off. and the center section of the differential was twisted upward..so bad, that the yoke on the front end is almost hitting the block..Can someone tell me what would cause this..I know that I am looking at a new yoke, and u-joints..and who knows what else..
If I put the truck in reverse, will this straighten the front end back to the way it was?? Meaning the correct location for the driveshaft to line up?
Thanks
Steve

Also, can someone tell me what keeps the differential inline..Is there dowels on it like on a leaf spring set up...or could the center section have rotated a little while the axle tubes stayed in the original position?? If the center section did slide, would there be fluid leaking out??
61 lookers and not 1 comment...Come on guys, I need some feedback..The center section of the front differential rotated so the front cover is facing 8:00 if you look at it through the driver side wheel well
