Default exhaust options

In the near future, I plan on putting a turbo back exhaust on my truck, and Ive got some questions as far as usefulness of the bigger pipe. Is there a reason to pay the extra money for a 5 inch over a 4 inch? lower egts? It is chipped (Hypertech Max Energy), cold air intake, boost fooler, and I will have some 50 horse injectors in it before long. Is there much of a sound difference between the two? And, is it okay to get one that comes completely straight,
or does it need a muffler of some sort for a little backpressure? note: right now im running stock exhaust except muffler delete.
This truck does pull hay, and a 10.5k 5th wheel.

Thanks.

4" is fine up to about 500 wheel horsepower-ish. Will you lose anything going to bigger? ehh, probably not as much as if it wasn't turbocharged, but you're not going to gain anything.

Im nowhere near 500hp, and I dont plan on being any time soon. So that leaves me with the final question of do i need the "muffler" that typically comes with an aftermarket exhaust, or is the straight option okay? Is there any need for backpressure?

No real need, might be a bit loud or drone a bit though.

That doesnt bother me, and I dont live in an area that the "officials" will care. So straight 4 inch it is. I appreciate the quick and accurate advice. Here I am, a Ford Diesel tech asking advice on modifying my Cummins...But I know you cant mod any post 03 Stroker without blowing it up, assuming it doesnt blow up anyway....

You can make good power out of a powerstroke, but it'll be expensive.

i have a 4" straight pipe turbo back on my 96 12 valve, and love it, its loud and its mean sounding, and like they said, you wont gain or lose anything, your good to go with it straight. i love mine. mine is also 5" stacked, not under the truck. but enjoy.

This is true in more than one way. Had a 10 F450 Harley Davidson Edition, a $70,000 truck come in traveling, with no compression because it had a chip. It was dumping fuel and washed the cyls. the kicker; it had 10,000 miles on it.
Had an 08 come in yesterday making a funny sound. Turns out it needs turbos, and a high psi fuel pump (they are known for burning themselves up with this concern). Come to find out, at its current 99K miles, its on its 3rd engine, and this will be the 6th set of turbos. its not chipped, its a f450 that pulls a trailer. Its being used for what its "made" for. I pointed to the Cummins on my cap, and he told me that "Dodges wont hold up"....

Post 03 Strokers just dont hold up, but thats my opinion.
