Default Need Help!

I have a 2006 cummins 5.9 with 74000 miles. I was getting a bit of white smoke upon startup, then as the engine runs a bit it will clear up and seems to run fine. Also noticed what seems to be oil spots on tailgate and rear bumper. So I took my truck to the dealership and they are telling me it needs a new engine. 15,000 dollars worth. Kicker is the warranty expired about a week ago. So, the questions are, does this sound like a blown motor? Does anybody know if Dodge will cover this? I bought this truck second hand about three or four months ago. Car lot is off the hook. Need some good news if anyone has it!

Default Need Help!!

I have a 2006 with the 5.9, was getting a bit of white smoke upon startup and also noticed what seemed to be small oil spots on tailgate. Took it to dealership and they are saying the motor is gone basically and needs a new one. 15,000 dollars worth! The only test they did was loosened the oil cap and said it blew off with motor running. Truck has 74830 miles and the real kicker is a week and half ago the warranty expired. So, my questions are, is the engine shot? Will Dodge cover any of this? Please help with advice, info, experience?

Call Chrysler TOMORROW and plead your case. I'm a tech at a Subaru dealer and I know Subaru is really good about helping out customers even after their warranty is up (depending on circumstances). Heck, we had a customer melt down her engine just after her powertrain warranty expired and they picked up the tab 100% on the condition that she traded it in on a new car.

Will Dodge be as helpful? I don't know, but that's the route you may have the best luck with.

If that fails, I'd be looking for a used engine to drop in.

Welcome Aboard NateBeavers! I noticed you entered the same exact entry in the Dodge Cummins Diesel forum so I won't point you toward that forum.

Not to be mean but the 5.9 cummins are junk motors. but it sounds like it's burning a little bit of oil. Have you kept an eye on the oil level?

Your comment about 5.9 engines is made without knowing what you are talking about!

Keep your comments in the gas burning side of Dodge!
