Default 5.9 3500 issues (2006)

New member, seeing if I can get some help from someone other than the dodge dealership. Just bought a 2006 5.9 3500 about a month and a half ago. There are a little over 82k miles on the truck and recently I got pulled over because my reverse lights were on while I was driving down the road in drive. When i looked down the light on the dash showed I was in reverse. I started to notice when going down the road the square on the dash would be on D, then R, back to D, to R then show nothing. Since then when I am going through 2nd my truck seems to be surging real bad, RPM's don't spike but still surging just going through 2nd. I did not know if these two problems were some how feeding off each other or what I need to do to fix the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated, just didn't want to take it to the dealership and come out about 3k in the hole.

The first could be an out of adjustment shift cable. I often have to shift to Drive and then bump the lever up a bit or it'll be in 2nd. Although Reverse and Drive are seperated by Neutral...

The second is likely a governor pressure solenoid or transducer. Sometimes they surge between 1st and 2nd, then back to 1st, but I know mine would mostly surge in 2nd when they went bad. Replace both at the same time, and upgrade to the GM solenoid: http://www.suncoastconverters.com/sh...kit-1996-2007/

I would suspect a bad range selector. The switch on the linkage at the transmission that tells the PCM what gear the shifter is in.

Dfro,

There was a TSB on the governor pressure solenoid for vehicles with the 48RE transmissions. I have listed it below. I agree with Lxman about the range selector.

NUMBER: 21-009-07
GROUP: Transmission
DATE: May 24, 2007

SUBJECT:
48RE Transmission - 1-2 Shift Hunt At Light Throttle
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the replacement of the governor pressure solenoid valve in the
transmission valve body.
MODELS:
2004 - 2007 (DR/DH/D1) Ram Truck (2500/3500)
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a 1-2 shift transmission hunt during light throttle application.
This condition may be due to a governor pressure solenoid valve.
