Hi
I hope someone can help I have a 99 Dodge Cummings with, automatic transmission, I bought the truck with only 39,000 miles
some time ago I have always had problems with the torque converter locking and unlocking, I reached 250,000 miles and had the transmission completely rebuilt with a new torque converter.
Needless to say this problem still haunts me. I hope someone has a few suggestions.

My first guess would be a brake switch and the other is a TPS sensor. But I will move your post to the diesel section. Someone else may have an ideal.

 

When you say "completely rebuilt" do you mean new valve body, new solenoids, new everything?

Or just new clutches and seals?

 

New solenoids, shift kit, upgraded torque converter, clutches,
the transmission shifts beautifully good and strong, this problem that I speak of comes and goes, it can happen random without any indication.

 

Intermittent bad ground?

 

mine has kind of been doing this lately as well. its a 2001 24v its got the automatic. lately it seems to be doing it when its in over drive at lower than 1500 rpms. its very frustraiting cause i have to keep it in 3rd until i get over 50 to keep it from happening. im hoping it is something simple. are our problems more or less the same?

 

easy fix usually the first thing to do is to clean battery cables and i mean clean them dont just say they look good take them off and clean cable end and battery end the charging system gets false readings when battery connections are corroded thus giving controller skewed voltage readings from the tps or bellcrank causing this to lock and unlock usually around 45 mph give that a try first

 

Yeah, definitely check your battery terminals. Also check your batteries themselves, a bad battery will cause lots of weird stuff.

I have also seen where it is necessary to run a wire between the alternator and a good known ground.
