Default Actuator Issues on 06, 3500 diesel

New to the forum and I'm looking for some help, I have recently noticed a grinding noise coming from the transfer case. I'm pretty certain my actuator is faulty or will not disengage the 4x4 or 2wd. The 4x4 lights are not the dash, I take very good care of this truck but the oil was a bit lower then it should have been after new transmission was installed. Topped up fluid level and noise didn't cease and grinding got louder as if it stuck between gears. Any help would be appreciated as I need to get back on the road ASAP.
