Default trouble code P2000

The check engine light came on in my 2010 2500 cummins with 66,000 miles. The code is P2000 and says something like hybrid battery overcharging. What the hell does that mean? Anybody ever have this before?

Keith,

Below is definition and possible causes of the P2000 code.

P2000-NOX ABSORBER EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD

Theory of Operation

The engine aftertreatment system monitors the oxygen content in the diesel engine exhaust. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the exhaust gases for oxygen content and varies the rich/lean fuel mixture of the intake air fuel mixture to adjust system. This diagnostic measures the oxygen storage capability of the Nitrates of Oxygen (NOx) Absorber Catalyst. The PCM will set the fault if it detects that the NOx Absorber performance is lower than expected. A mobile desoot should not be performed while investigating this fault. The PCM will illuminate the MIL lamp immediately when the diagnostic runs and fails. The PCM will turn off the MIL lamp diagnostic runs and passes in four consecutive drive cycles.
  • When Monitored: This diagnostic will run during deNOx events.
  • Set Condition: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) will set the fault if it detects that the NOx Absorber performance is lower than expected.

Possible Causes

MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR O2 SENSORS USE OF HIGH SULFUR FUEL TAMPERING OR REMOVAL OF THE NAC DEGRADED OR POISONED NAC EXHAUST, EGR OR INTAKE LEAKS

Thanks for the info. I dropped it off at the dealer yesterday. It was there in January for the engine light and they said it needed desooting all the way thru the turbo to the filter. Said it needed a reflash to cure the problem. Will see what they say this time.

So I get the truck back Friday night. They tell me it had a bad sensor and needed the catalyst and emision system desooted. This covered under warranty unlong with a bad axle seal. But then say they would not do the repair unless I pay for an EGR/CCV filter service and charge air system service which are a 60,000 mile service requirement. My owners manual says nothing about this. Has anyone else heard of it? Oh and thats a 720.00 service.

Keith,

Contact the Customer Assistance Center and have them call the dealer for an explanation. It's either covered under warranty or it is not. If the dealer is telling you it is only covered under warranty if you pay them for other services that is wrong.

Chrysler gave no decent answers so I went back to the dealership and talked to the service manager. He printed the full maintenance schedule for me. At 67500 miles it states Replace Crankcase Ventilation Filter, Clean EGR Valve and Clean EGR Cooler. He said these items were needed to be done on my truck and apologized for it not being explained more clearly and gave me a free oil change. I guess its all good, but I will figure out how to do it myself next time.

The p2000 code is back now with 111,000 miles. Do I replace mass air flow and oxygen sensors to see if it clears up? Any ideas to further diagnose?

is your truck out of warranty yet?

if so, do yourself a favor and get a delete programmer and a delete pipe for the DPF and cat. the EGR will be electronically deleted, but you can get a physical delete kit for that too if desired.

doing the deletes will eliminate those problems permanently.

if you are still under warranty, then I suggest driving the truck like you stole it, or hooking to a heavy trailer and hit some mountain passes with the skinny pedal to the floor... work that engine to death and get it HOT. the harder you work it the cleaner that exhaust will get. the idea is to burn off the soot by not babying the truck. the less you work it the more the soot builds up. the harder you work it the cleaner it gets. if/when you delete the emissions controls on it, this will no longer be an issue and you can baby the truck all you want, but until then, you have to work it hard...

Yes the truck is out of warranty. I really dont want to spend the money on a programmer or delete kit right now. If its a mass airflow sensor or oxygen sensor i dont see how the delete kit would eliminate those problems either.
