I just in stalled this 2001 cummin into my 1997 chevy truck. have every thing hooked up.when I crank the engine it has a sucking noise in the intake,I have never incountered this before. I keeped the VP44 pump and computer. what is the sucking noise. I built one of the beast back in 1996,I used a p-pump on that build up,never had a problem.

A sucking noise....loose filter connection maybe? Hard to tell by the description, maybe a video could help?

 

I am having problems on it starting as I crank it over it does not start and I hear a sucking noise from the intake inlet.I was cranking a bit before this sucking noise started.it never did start.the eng is a 2001 cummins w/a VP44 pump. Is the sucking on the intake to the turbo (passenger side) or intake manifold/horn (drivers side)? I've occasionally had a "sucking" sound that was no more than untightened clamps on the intake to the turbo; I can't think of anything that would cause a sucking sound not related to the air charge system, unless maybe the fuel connection to the VP isn't loose. Even then I'd think there would be a leak.

A separate issue (I think) is the no-fire; did you prime the system by cracking fuel lines at the head? You don't want to starve that VP of fuel, or it's a grand to replace. As long as it has fuel and the VP is supplying pressure, it'll start

 

well i found the problem on the no starting.don't for get to hook up the ground cable on the computer. I have run the eng and it sounds so sweet.So far every thing is coming along nicely gages all work and I have the foot fuel feed working.today is get rid of unwanted wiring under the hood.and The sucking noise in gone after I started it was not there.
