if you live in a place where you have to go through emissions or inspections, then probably shouldn't do it..if you don't have to do emissions or inspections and you don't care about warranty. then DPF and EGR deletes should be first on the list.
then get a good lift pump and gauges (egt, boost, trans temp, rail pressure)
then throw a programmer on there like the smarty.

I bought one of the first 07.5, 6.7's in Texas, what a friggen nightmare... At first
I live where we have no smog check, and have lots of friends in automotive, so inpections are no problem.
I did the egr delete, straight piped it (no
Cat, Dpf, nothing), added a cold airbox, and completely removed the egr cooler. I went with the Smarty 67 programmer, and the truck has ran like a raped ape for years.
Just don't go above a soft 2 catcher software , with the
middle east tune. No smoke, can hear my turbo, and I get an honest 19-21 mpg ( not towing) doing 70-80 mph across wear Texas all day long.
Remember if you change the turbo to a conventional one, you will lose your air brake, but you can always add one for around 400.00
