Default Fuel economy problem.

Hi. I have a 99 dodge ram 2500 cummins diesel.

I had the injector pump and fuel pump replaced just 2 weeks ago. I got the boschvp44 injection pump and the airdog raptor fuel pump.

Since install, fuel economy has dropped from 16.5 to as of now 14.7.

I am hearing that my injectors now will need tested or the timing is not right.

Prior to this my economy was sitting steady at 17 mpg.

Is it possible that the timing is not right since the injector pump was installed or some other issue?

I don't have any smoke and the truck rides ok maybe a little sluggish, truck idles fine. Doesn't appear to be any fuel in the oil.

I can almost see the fuel disappearing on the gauge

If you cant tell already i know very little about my truck but am keen to learn.

Thanks for any advice.

that can also be caused by many areas switching to winter blend fuels...winter blend robs fuel economy, and so does colder weather due to the IAT sensor detecting cold air outside so it tells the pump to run more fuel at retarded timing to help it run in the cold...you can make an IAT fooler switch to make your truck think its hot as hell outside...might start up like an old 12v in the cold with that on, but it'll get better economy in the winter. mopar1973man.com has info on how to make one...its basically a toggle switch with a specific resistor.

thanks jigapop. That is a good possibility

I have the truck going into the shop. Do you know when installing the injector pump, can it be installed incorrectly and mess up the timing but still run ok?. Or would it just not run?

Tanks for the info. I went to try and check it out. I get mine from safeway. Shell or techron i think. The guy checked but couldnt be sure it is winter blend. I will try some stp injector cleaner tomorrow. Does economy dip with winter blend? Should i put in some additive to compensate. Thanks.

you can run wally world 2-stroke oil in the fuel to help lubricate your injection pump and improve fuel economy...

128:1 mix ratio. or 1oz per gallon of diesel.

its $12 a gallon at wally world. get about 4 full tanks a gallon.

Got some Howes lubricator diesel treat and added to fuel. Would you still reccomend the wally world 2 stroke oil on top of the Howes i added?

Thanks for your input, really appreciate it.

cant hurt! just don't run the 2-cycle oil in 2007 or newer diesels with all the emissions crap on them..
