Hey folks new member here saying hello and hoping someone can help me!
I have a 98 ram 1500 w/a 5.9! Here is the deal there was a diesel trans put into the truck and a 180 degree tstat and the truck will get nowhere near operating temp and the heater sucks because of it?!?!? Please let me know anything I can do? Is the radiator to much for the truck???

he doesn't have a diesel...

also 180* tstat is too cold... get a 190*+ tstat...higher the better for your heat.

 

radiator size and transmission has nothing to do with operating temp. you can have no rad or 5 rads , it dont matter , as long as that thermostat is closed your engine will run at 180. your problem is simple , the thermostat wasnt installed properly , it is not seated or at an angle. it needs to reinstalled. in other words , water is always circulating , you can verify this by removing radiator cap when cold. start engine , you will see coolant circulating inside.

 

Put a stock 195* stat in the truck.

 

A diesel trans was put in? Are we talking about a manual trans with a removable bellhousing?

 

Either way the transmission doesnt have anything to do with engine temp.. Like Wombat said put a 195 back in and all will be fine
