Default Need Advice Tuner/Towing

Newbie here. Just purchased a 2011 6.7L Laramie 4X4. Love it. The previous owner deleted. The gas mileage is fantastic. My question is, what tuner level should I program the truck at to tow a 10K 5th wheel?

Do you have gauges installed? Trans temp and exhaust gas temp are crucial. Some programmers have defuel limits you can set so that you can run a hot tune and it'll pull fuel if either gets too hot.

I am running XRT Pro. Do you know if they have defuel limits? I do not have gauges, yet. . they are on my Christmas list. I plan on getting trans and egt, any recommendations? Seems harder to find the pillar mount than the gauges. I appreciate your answers and apologize for the delayed response.

if you don't have a built trans or gauges, keep it tuned to economy mode and don't exceed it till you have gauges to monitor your trucks vitals.

The 68rfe is a much better trans than the 4*re. I know of some folks running 500/1100ish at the tires on factory stock transmissions who have 100k+ of flogging on them.

Mine was fine until I liquefied the underdrive clutches sitting at a light (looooong light?!!) in 4-high power braking.

I believe my first sled pull was with the stock trans as well. Then I rebuilt it with Suncoast clutches, torque converter, valve body, and billet flexplate.

If I had to do it over again, I'd have been a lot smarter.

How long have you had the XRT? Honestly I'd see if you can't return it and get the Black Maxx or Mini Maxx.

The previous owner had the deletes performed. Exhaust, EGR, and EGR cooler. The dealer I bought the truck from knew the previous owner and contacted him on my behalf. That conversation led to him telling me the name of the mechanic shop that did the deletes. I called them and the owner of the auto shop sent me the tuner, cables, SD card, case all of it at no charge. So sending the XRT back and exchanging it is not an option. I have it set as when I bought it. On "hot damn". I don't hot dog or get into it. Just drive it back and forth to work right now. I plan on getting a 5th Wheel in Mar-Apr. I think I am fine leaving it in hot damn and just not stomping the accelerator. After all, I've put about 2000 miles on it since I purchased it all in a month. Thanks for the advice.

definitely get gauges. EGT, boost, rail pressure, and trans temp.

The XRT will NOT automatically defuel as it doesn't monitor anything. I would seriously recommend NOT towing a heavy load (especially in hot weather) without monitoring your EGT and trans temp. You WILL have the ability to melt down your engine and cook your transmission if you aren't careful.

Did you buy your truck from a legitimate Dodge dealer, or some used car lot?

I'm not sure it's legal for a legitimate dealer to sell a truck that isn't emissions legal, especially if they know it.

If you ever have to put the emissions equipment you're looking at probably $7k worth of pipes.
