2001 Dodge "SURGES"
We have a 2001 Dodge 3500. When it is cold (under 45 or so), it surges and will take off with you and if it's not surging on you, the accelerator won't work. You can push/pump the accelerator over & over and then all of a sudden it will either take off with you or just set and idiol. It never dies or quits running. We have replaced the fuel lines & fuel filters....we have also kept it completely fuel of diesel and added additives. Any ideas???? Someone is going to get hurt or we are going to run into someone or something. When the weather is warm it never does this, only when cold.
sounds like you might have a bad apps, (throttle position sensor) try doing a reset and see if that helps (google "cummins apps reset") should be easy to find, check codes, and check all ground wires
yep. sounds like the APPS is dead...reset is a bandaid. when it happens its time to replace...
I hear timbo APPS is one of the best replacements.
http://www.dodgecumminsapps.com/contact.html
and for $165 shipped, not bad.
only do that IF it is the apps that is bad...check the codes first though, that should tell the story of whats going on...these symptoms can also be a failed VP44 injection pump...codes will tell which it is.
