Default 5.9 head swap

I have a 98 2500 5.9 Cummins 24V and was wanting to port and polish the head. I was thinking that it would be smarter to do the work to a 12V since it is half the restriction because half the valves. Would the 12V head be able to replace the 24V head?

if you are trying to just do a head swap with minimal to no porting work done, get a 3rd gen head.

Otherwise have a shop port and polish the head and intake you have and be done with it.
