hey guys its been a while since I have been on here but I have been thinking about the upgrades im going to do in the near future and wanted to run it past you guys to see what you guys think. I am looking at getting a cai and was wondering if I will get any benefit out of it with already having other things done? I like the banks one despite what I have herd from other guys about the price and all that. so let me know what you guys think. thanks in advance

3rd gen intakes are fine up until about 450-500hp. If you're pushing that much, an aftermarket filter would benefit you. At 450-500 wheel horsepower, you're sucking so much air it'll actually start deforming the stock filter.

BHAF would be a nice upgrade....

also an intake horn on a 3rd gen isn't a bad idea...

even a second gen intake horn would be a huge upgrade for a 3rd gen...

I already have an intake horn read my sig. I am planning on doing a fass lift pump in the near future with a sump in the tank and I want to change the exhaust to stacks. so read my sig and you will see what I have done so far my question was with what I already have done will adding the cai do anything for me? I plan on playing with turbo and injectors once I start having problems with the stock ones and an exhaust manifold at some point to.

BHAF is a cheaper and better mod than a "cool air intake"

basically wasting your money on an overpriced tube and a cone filter...stock intake tube is more than sufficient. you just change the air filter out for the massive BHAF.

I get where you are going with that but I watch my intake temps on my edge monitor and I look at where they are at and im like wow that is hot so I know just changing to a bigger filter wont help drop them that's why I am looking at the cai. to be honest I am liking the banks cai with the super scoop I know its not cheap but you do also get what you pay for. I believe running and in closed box that has a way to pull in fresh cold air from outside the engine compartment is the way to go.

changing to a COA won't change that either...

why you might ask??

well for starters the process of the turbo compressing air generates massive amounts of heat. We're talking several hundred degrees of heat...

this heat is then cooled back down by your intercooler.

upon initial startup, if the air is too cold coming into the engine, the grid heaters will heat up the air post intercooler causing hot air to enter the engine anyway.

these "cool air intakes" do nothing that stock air tube wouldn't do. if you think the joke of a heat shield they come with actually does anything, then why not make your own?

if you truly want cooler air in your engine, upgrade your intercooler, or get a functional ram air hood that draws air from outside the engine bay completely. (but air going into the engine is still going to be hotter due to the turbocharger.

I do want to get an srt 10 hood with the functional scoop and have thought about getting an intercooler I just don't have the cash to do everything at once. I was just trying to see what people thought about cai. I don't like the air intake tube I have now with all the baffles in it and everything personally I think its dumb how they designed it but that's just me. I do plan on doing a fass pump and things like turbo and injectors once the stock ones wear out or go bad and some day an exhaust manifold to.
