I use the Rotella AT 15-40 and Mobil 1 Heavy Duty filters, changed every 5,000 miles. Easy enough to do, but breaking the filter loose on the factory installed filter for the first time is a bear. Remove the air intake hose from between the air box and the turbo for access.

getting the filter off for the first time is a pain. when the engine is sent to Dodge it is painted with this laquer that bonds just about everything together.

it took a rag inside my filter wrench socket to grab the fluteing on the end of the filter in order to spin that thing around[:@]

after that I put it on untill I cant turn it while underneath my truck, havent had a leak yet

WOW.. 15000 for every oil change

I had mine changed by the dealer for the first time at 7,300 and felt guilty for going that long. Had dealer do it cuz it was free

Most big rigs run anywhere from 25,000 to 50,000 miles between oil changes. The company I drive for is running 40,000 miles between changes. There is 850k miles on our 02 International with no problems.

Remember your 5.9 CTD is smaller than many gas engines, holds nearly 3 times as much oil and runs an oil cooler. It also has less blowby and less moisture in the spent gasses.

Anyone using a by-pass oil filter setup? Pros? Cons? What would you expect to see your oil change frequency with one?

Actually, the K&Ns are a poorer quality filter than the OEM Mopars (which are rebadged generic Fleetguards)...about the best over the counter filter you can get for you truck is a Fleetguard StratoPore or MicroGlass filter.

I believe from what I researched a while ago, the K&Ns actually allow larger particles to pass than most filters.

Just FYI,
