Thanks all looks like I need to wait it out a little. I sure would like to get around the 20 range like some are.

your on the right track. just give things time and you'll see the numbers steadily go up. also since you are towing a good bit you wil see the numbers go up quicker than I have. I dont tow tooo much and for the longest time I was getting 13-15. dumping in some power service and MMO helped with mileage, but now that I have about 25K on the clock of my 04.5 if I'm easy I can see 18, untill I have a ricer pull up next to me with their fart can exhaust[8D]

edit, it also doesnt help my mileage that I have 4.10's and a stick

I hate to be that guy but I just got a TRUE hand figured 28mpg from Laramie to Ft Collins loaded with two dirt bikes and all of our gear. There was a slight side/tail wind, and we drop 2000 feet over the whole trip but there are still several big hills. All I have done is remove the muffler and install an Edge Juice with Attitude. I still can't believe I got this kind of mileage, this was at speeds of 65-70mph. Call me a lier but I will swear it to the grave. On a side note I got 21 on the return trip.

I have an 96 x-cab 2500 4x4 cummins. Two weeks ago I hit the 400,000 mile mark and average 18 mpg. Sometimes as low as 15 and as high as 22. It really seems, though hard to believe, that my mileage is best kept when I fill up every 100-150 miles.

I have 96' 4WD reg. cab w/ a long bed. I have no cat, some old a$$ flowmaster that my dad installed, and a K&N FIPK. I average 19.5-20 in all around driving. That's with 172000 on the clock.

Well you make what you want of it, but I ran into a guy from Dodge tonight. I am a firefighter and we had a call to a local truck stop. After the call there was a Mega cab diesel attached to a single axle enclosed trailer. The trailer was covered with maga cab, dodge and cummins logos. We stopped so I could talk to him. He was driving a fully loaded 2006 mega cab CTD, 4x4 and I asked about his mileage. He said he was getting 18, he showed me the overhead and it read 18.2, and he ahd not yet calculated the trip meter so he did it with me there and was 18.

As many have said and he also said mileage and break in are key. His odometer read 6000 something. He said the mileage woould improve with miles and break in. So there ya go take it or leave it.

I own a 2005 ctd since July , have 25000 on it by now, all long distance , NY - NJ - FLA - Canada, I averaged about 17.8 on hwy before I had a bed-cap installed , now its 16.5 on Hwy and 14.9 in town. I guess the cap creates a bad airflow between passenger cap and bed-cap ( there is a small gap ) ... average speed on hwy is 70Mph , altough I like it best at 75/80. smooth...

My 98 24v was getting 15 to 17 mpg all the time. I have a 5 speed and 3.55 gearing 2x2... I was greatly upset over that as my sons 93 Dodge with a 12v was getting 24mpg...

At 68,000 miles I took a trip to the west coast to see my dad. Going across Uath,, the traffic was running 90- 95mph.. WHhhhhhoooooo. @!@

Well I was running behind on time, so I punched it up to where I fit in.. After that my mileage jumped to 20 - 22 mpg..

Now I have 110,000 miles and it jumped again to 22- 24 mpg..

It takes time to seat in a long life engine.. Give it Hell..

If anyone thinks CTD's get good mileage, check out the PowerStroke guys. Between my ex-father in law and members of my unit with Ford diesels, they all get around 25 MPG. I almost bought one, but after researching I found the stronger internals are what I need for my power upgrades/driving habits.
