Umm yeah, that ain't happening anywhere inspections are mandatory. 2012 EPA standards calls for a max of 15 mg/kg NOx output from all on road diesel vehicles produced after 12/31/2011. A 2013+ deleted 6.7 CTD can easily put out 1,100 mg/kg while a stock system with EGR, SCR & DEF systems reduce those levels to about 10 mg/kg.
Hence, the EPA classifies tampering with these systems a CRIMINAL ACT. It also mandates that if any of these systems fail to function properly, the vehicles on board PCM must put it into limp mode within 100 miles.
The other possible HUGE snafu is that the EPA has been pushing for federally mandated inspections where all on road vehicles anywhere in the country will be subject to bi-annual inspections. If passed these will most likely adopt guidelines very close to CARB standards with only vehicles classified as antiques being exempt. Let's hope that sh*t never passes!!!
Thats why its hard for me to understand why and how 90% of the diesels i see are straight piped, deleted and all the above. It seems that more people would want to stay legal. But i do understand being able to achieve better gas mileage, cooler egts, and more horsepower.
Well i have to say i didnt expect it to make any different being only a pipe replacement but its got a deeper tone and more equal sound out the back. But since it goes from 4in into a 4in T to dual 4in pipes it feels like it breathes and spools better.
