Default Time for a new(er) truck

Coming home from an RV outing yesterday I mentioned to the wife that it might be time to update our 07 2500 for a new(er) truck. She did not laugh, give me a dirty look, or roll her eyes...so that means yes?

I know that 07 was the first year they offered the 6.7's...and you do not want to buy on the first year. Any comments/thoughts as to what year the 6.7's had most of the bugs out? I was thinking of looking for around a 2010 - 13.

Yes, I know the following are loaded questions. But, I am asking those who may work on trucks for a living, etc.: Is Cummins still considered the best motor? If Ram not available, what would be the second choice; GMC/Chevy, Ford? One to stay away from?

Thanks,

In 2010 the HO 6.7 came out. 2013 and up will have DEF. Rumor has it the new ones get much better fuel mileage. On the flip side the deletes will do wonders to the prior years.

Thanks...

I have read the same here about the newer ones.

Deletes still available? I heard they dried up when EPA started clamping down a few years back.

Yes...you can buy "delete kits" with the hardware to remove EGR etc. Then I believe you need a "tune" to fool the ECM that the EGR is still there or it is gone. Can't remember which.

Anyone on the forum own/tow with the 1500 with the 3.0 diesel? Might be to small for my towing needs, but a consideration.
