Class assignment
Hi Im doing a class assignment and I need to ask some one some questions on why they bought a dodge cummins diesel truck?
Why did you buy your truck ?
What kind of things do you use your truck for work, play etc. Do you haul stuff like livestock, hay.
Thanks for your help Rusty.[sm=gears.gif]

this should go in the cummins topic area since you are limiting yourself to a single demographic, but it'll work here
anyway to answer your question I used to work on all makes of diesel engines for the military and civilian world and the engines that had the fewest problems and ran best were Cummins made. this kinda scewed my decision on buying my big boy toy since I already knew the ISB was a true workhorse and could see over 500,000 miles before any major work would ever be considered. the block that is used in my truck is the exact same block, aside from a few modifications, that Cummins put in the first W250 back in '88. infact the 5.9L ISB that is used in my truck (04.5) can be traced back to when Cummins first started. neither Ford or Chevy can say this. the new 6.0 Powerstroke manufactured by International-Navistar has only been in existance for 2 maybe 3 years. the older 7.3 Powerstroke was THE engine of the day. and it WOULD run forever if maintained properly. The Duramax Diesel Chevy uses is made by Isuzu, I'm still scratching my head about this one, but I do know it can put out some good power, but it just doesnt last too long. the old 6.2's chevy put out were no more than 350 gasser engines with diesel heads put on. bad mojo.
I mainly bought mine casue I know the engine and what it can do. so you could say mostly play
however, if you look at the parts used in the engine, they more closely match what is used in the OTR truck and can be summed up in one word, massive.

The main reason I bought mine is the fact that it will out tow anything on the market today.
Plus the reliability of the Cummins name was a no brainer as far as I was concerned.
As for what I do with it, Plans are in the works to get a fifht wheel trailer soon.
After I retire its on the road.

All because of the motor
. I hate to admit it but I actually like the look of the new Fords better....but nothing compares to a Cummins. The big difference here is that Cummins has been making these motors for years and years....they've perfected their craft. The dodge's were built around the motor....while fords and chevy's had to build a motor to fit in their trucks. So when it came time for me to haul something heavy (10,000lb humvee+trailer combo), there was really no debate
Diesels run forever and maintain their value extremely well. Thank God I didn't have to sell my truck!
....A wedding/house/engagement ring forced me to put it up for sale a little while back....but I ended up keeping it.

I'm in the process of buying one (hope this counts) I'll take possesion right around Christmas (buying it from 500mi away, long story.
right now I've got a little Dakota V8, trading it for a 98.5 3/4 ton 4x4 Cummins. 2 reasons, it's more truck than I'll ever need, and it should get better gas mileage than the current truck. I wouldn't have any truck except a Dodge, darn glad they put the Cummins in long ago.

my first truck was a dodge D50 Power Ram 4x4, and i had a 2000 2500 4x4, and now have an 04.5 2500 4x4 cummins. i have played, hauled, and towed in all of them. my newest one is probably 80% transportation, 10% play, and 10% work(hauling or towing)
I bought my first dodge one month ago and it is a 2005 2500 CTD Quad Cab 4x4. I bought it because it will run and run and run...........
Also went with the cummins because I know that as I get older (i'm 24 now) it will do anything me and my wife need. I needed a truck for things around the house and for the fun purpose as well.
I went from a 2001 Subaru Impreza and I loved that car. But I am much happier in my truck. I feel like a king when I drive down the road.
I went with dodge for the looks and the interior. I hate and I mean HATE the fabric in the new fords and 06+ dodges. The seats are tough and the fabris is not as soft. Plus I like my dash mluch better. I do like the GMC allot because of all the options you can get (Driver information center with complete control of vehicle security, power slide out mirrors and so forth). But the dode just looks like a truck and well.. It just plain looks mean.

The fellows ahead of me spelled it out, and the pic of the rods and poistons,, WOW, I saved that one.!
I have 8 Cummins engines on the farm.. All of my tractors nut one old Case 2290.. My combine has a 330 hp M11 Cummins, I built a tractor out of an old semi road trator that has a 855 big cam Cummins at 400 hp. I have an old White cab over with the old C180 supercharged Cummins. It was the engine back in the 1950s that put Cummins ahead of everyone else.. It has over 1,234,000 miles on it.,

I am a Mopar fan since I was in grade school,, so when I had the cash to upgrade my (1979 Dodge 1/2 ton 360 with 422,000 miles) I got my Cummins ram.. I could use a 4x4 out here on the farm,, but with a little thinking ahead of time,, I seldom get stuck.. When I do, well I hate to say this,, I drop it in 4th and let her loose,, I throw roster tails of mud 300 feet in the air at times,, and she digs out.
I use my pu for long trips as the ride for me is better than a car, and I feel safer sitting higher, with more iron around me. On the farm, it gets worked all the time. I store my farming tools in a shead 10 miles away from my home base, I tow them with my Dodge.. Some items like my big drills weight 16,000 lbs,, and my big dics weights 23,000 lbs. This is all on dirt and sand roads with allot of hills.. I take it easy, and go slow, as a load like that can steer a 6,000 truck into the ditch.. I haul feed stacks all the tine out of the fields, and down the road also.. They weight 12,000 lbs. When the ground is soft,, and Im sinking into the dirt to the rims, it takes allot of power to pull a stack out of the field. A gasser with auto trans would just sit in one spot,, and burn up..
I hope my tractor pic loads, Im new here and still on the leaning curve..
