Default Dodge 3500 rear ends

I have a 97 Dodge 3500 dualy . It has 3:55’s in it but I found a 2000 3500 cab & chasis with 4:10’s. My question is will the 2000 interchange with mine? Thanks

I think there are some minor differences, maybe the rear wheel speed sensor, but, aside from that, it should bolt in. If you have an auto trans, you should have a Dana 70 rear though, and the cab/chassis might be an 80. Mounts and such are all the same still, I think the axle tubes are larger diameter....

Should be a D80 in yours then. Makes life easier.

What is wrong with your current rear diff??

Nothing that I know of. I pull a GN trailer with skid steer ‘ mini x a lot. Both weigh 10K. Just thinking I might like 4:10’s better.

Highly likely.

Have you considered just changing the gears?

Yes. That was what I meant to ask in original post just didn’t make that as clear as I should’ve. Mechanic I use has a wrecked truck with the 4/10’s in it. Was just curious if hears were interchangeable

If they are both D80's, then they certainly should be. Does either rear have the limited slip diff?

DRW in a 2ndgen is a Dana 80. The pickup diff is wider than the cab & chassis by about 4".

The Powr-lok was discontinued around '98. Best you will find in a '00 diff is the trac-lok, unless somebody has upgraded since.

2nd gens Duallys had the Dana 80 regarless of the transmission. If you do a few modifications to that Cummins under the hood you won't need 4.10 gears.
