Default Heavy Duty Autotransmission

I just got a 1997 Dodge Ram cummins (see signature). It has the HD auto in it. It's listed as an option. My question is, whats the difference between the HD auto and the regular one? I would like to know so I know how much I could safely bomb the truck w/o any tranny problems. BTW there is nothing like a Cummins.

Default RE: Heavy Duty Autotransmission

well the automatics were an option on the deisels the 4500 5spd manul was the standard tranny in the 97s but the autos want stand a hole lot of heavy towing or power uggades to engine without upgradeing the auto with some valave body and lock up mods (when i say heavy towing im talkin 8000 plus pounds) the autos will hold up to some pounding dont get me wrong but like anything if your going to truely beat on it youll have to make it bullet prof or u will be breakin it hope this helps
