Losing oil 98 12 Valve
I have a 98 3500 CTD dually 4x4 with NV4500. I recently put on about 10,000 miles moving from VA to SD to AZ. Most of the time was spent hauling about 10,000 lbs. of trailer and such. On my move to AZ, my oil press light came on when I idled off the interstate, and was 0 for about 2 seconds. I had to put about 3.5 quarts to get it back to it's normal range. Plus, there seems to be more oil on the ground than before whenever I park it overnight. I've been running amsoil. Anybody know any known problems to cause oil leakage? Oh, it has almost 140,000 miles on it now. Do I need to do an overhaul already?

the only thing I know of the 98's is the dredded 53 block, but that ends up being a coolant leak.
I'm wondering if you had a front or rear main go out. see if you can locate exactly where the oil is comeing from. you might have to pressure wash the underside of the engine to figure this out.

As stated before you need to find out where the oil leak is coming from. Amsoil is an excellent product. I cannot imagine it would have anything to due with your problem. This sounds like a seal failure, front or rear main or accessory drive. Also check the drain line on your turbo charger.

All right. I wiped everything down. It appears to be coming from the line coming from the bottom of the oil pump. It's not loose, just leaking. Is that the oil supply to the pistons, or what? It seems like it only goes about a foot then into the block. Whatever the case, I'll probably need to replace the line, right?

the oil pump is internal.
the only external oil lines I know if are for the turbo. there would be a small high pressure line going to the top of the turbo to oil the bearings then a large no pressure tube comeing from the bottom going into the oil pan or the side of the block.
this is what it sounds like you are talking about, replace it and you should be good to go. I doubt any damage to the engine or turbo since this is after the turbo.
