I have a 1994 Dodge Cummings 2500 Automatic and the last couple of days while I am driving at about 60-65 mph my trasmission keeps down shifting and flucuating the RPM's by about 300. I am not sure if my transmission is wrecked or if there is something that can be done to fix the problem?

sounds like the torque converter is kicking out of lock-up.

might be a good time to look at getting it replaced.

I have been told that it could be the TPS where abouts is the TPS located?

Not sure if it applies back to '94. I know for my '98 (should be the same tranny), there is a program update that is supposed to correct torque converter not locking up. Mine had the problem a while back, first guy thought the Bell Crank (TPS) was bad, when the truck guy looked at it he threw the program in it and everything was right again.

I believe the 98 has the 47RE, the 94 might have the 47RH, might have the 737, but I think those lived in the 1st gens and early 2nd gens('93).

I just got a wild hair somewhere telling me it might be the valve body or a check valve might be clogged. the electronic kick down the TPS does didnt happen untill 98. so eveything about this truck is hydraulic.

I am sorry this may be a stupid no brainer question but what do 47RE and 47RH stand for or mean?

they are the designations for the transmissions. 737 was in the old gen 1's and some early gen 2's. then there was another, I cannot remember what it is after the 737. then in 96( I think) came along the 47RH. then with the power increase of the 24 valve came the 47RE. then with the gen 3 trucks came the 48RE that we have today.

so where is the TPS located on a '99 cummings. My dads truck keeps going in and out of OD at 40-45mph. Can anyone help me?

brad. . .check the wireing harness to the tranny and see if there are any parts that are rubbing through. second, check the main battery ground for corrosion and check back.

EXACT same thing was happening to me. Cleaned the ground wires up really good and it's been fine ever since.
