Default ATF in the fuel to help the injection pump???

I've been hearing from some people around here that on the older cummins (second or first gen) trucks the injection pumps will go bad a lot sooner unless you run about a pint of ATF in the fuel every tank...true or false????

false. this was started up with the VP44's.

you would be better off with a mix of Power Service and MMO

I can vouch for Drews Brew of ps & mmo now that I am on my fourth tank

Driving city/crowded highway in Florida, approx 50 miles per day, unloaded, on snowbird infested roads. I found it boosted my mpg by 3.

come to think of it mmo kind of looks like atf.

Marvel Mystery Oil, the red bottle in the automotive additive section.

I was first running just power service as well, but then I got a tip frfom another board I frequent about mixing Marvels Mystery Oil. it not only increased fuel mileage .5mpg, but also increases the lubrication of the diesel.

with the newer Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel that is comeing out, the VP44 crowd needs all the lubrication they can get since that pump is lubricated by the fuel itself, all other pumps use engine oil for lubrication. With Diesel, when you remove the sulfur from the fuel, the lubricative properties of the fuel also goes down. Oil companies at the time of refinement do add some lubrication to the fuel, but it is not enough.

The CP3 is currently the only injector pump certified to run this ULSD, the VE, P7100, and especialy the VP44. But I want to ensure the pump has all the lubrication I can give it.

I toyed around with different amounts of mix, and I also verified what I found frfom other sites that 16oz of Power Service and 8oz of MMO gave the best bang for the buck. . .so to speak

I increased the PS to a full bottle, but the gains were deminishing above 24oz, with the MMO I tried 16oz, and again nothing, 8oz seems to be the sweet spot
