don't have a good pic yet... taking the 5ver out this weekend so will try then. got that right about the info... much to be learned. was just looking somewhere about a silencer ring... saw what I had to do.[sm=confused06.gif] hadn't done anything to the truck except for filter changes... well, the more I hang around here... the more I wanna do. don't think the DW is gonna like this place too much.

Drew, Can't wait to change my filter. Where do you get those Fleetguard FS19579 fuel water separators. Shouldn't be that hard here in Phoenix, but it sure isn't at any of those big parts stores I'VE been looking.

Jack. . .I get all my filters from Geno's Garage. they are cheaper and have all sorts of kits available, plus the filters are a bit cheaper from them

I dunno why. . .it was just an easy place to put it just incase I wanted to put it back in if someone complaied about the 747 under the hood on a long trip

Replacing the Fuel Filter on a Diesel Engine is probably the most overlooked yet easiest maintenance item on your truck, it is similar to replacing the spark plugs on a gas engine. A good fuel filter is essential to having an engine that performs well. A dirty fuel filter can lead to lowered vehicle performance, and lower fuel mileage. Changing the Fuel Filter takes less than 30 minutes to do yourself. So instead of paying your dealership big bucks for them to change it, you can do it yourself for under $15.
This is all you need to change the fuel filter on your Truck:
One Fleetguard FS19579 Fuel Water Separator
One 12 inch crescent wrench or a 1-1/8 socket wrench
One section of ¾ ID hose approx. 18-24 inches long
One plastic container or an oil drain pan

I can't remember EVER doing this or having it done !! This is my first diesel and I'm still learning things about it. A new fuel filter is definately on my list of things to do in the very near future. I've got a 98 turbo diesel, is that list of parts and tools needed the same for all? Can I just pick up the parts needed at my local parts shop, or do I hafta get them from the dealer?

98's might be a bit different with the filter, this is what I found Fleetguard FS 19598
you can get them from the dealer, but be prepared to pay out the nose, the site I linked to has the best deal for filters.

Is the container where the filter is .... is that the seperator that you mentioned?
