Default 2001 Losing power

What a great site! I wanted to share a problem I’m having with my 2001 5.9 24v. Last year while towing I would notice an occasional problem, the truck would not respond to throttle no change in RPM, speed nothing just sits at idle (even with full throttle applied) after a few seconds power is restored and I’m on my way. It has been getting progressively worse and I thought it may have something to do with the “Power Puck” I had in the truck so I removed the Puck but the problem remains? One thing that will clear the problem is if I put the trany in neutral shut off the ignition and restart the engine. The problem is now appearing while not towing and I just replaced the fuel filter. Any thoughts on the cause???

I'm wondering if your throttle possition sensor is going bad.

granted it is a bell type system and is rather pricey, but this does sound like what the problem is.

Mine's an '01 and I have had the same symptoms. Twice! Both times it was the injector pump (VP44). They replaced the TPS the first time and it didn't help. There were no computer codes. The second time (last month) I was told there was a code indicating an injector pump problem. My symptoms were almost exactly the same as yours. They did get worse as time passed. Good luck!

what clued me into the TPS was no throttle responce. now it could be your lift pump is dying and the only way to test it would be to get a fuel pressure gage and hook it up.

Update!

I recently installed the Edge Juice w/Attitude and have an idle fuel pressure of 5psi and 1/0 when under load. I did the ignition code test and it is showing codes P0216 P0234 and P1693?

I have recently (within the last 1,000 miles) changed the fuel filter.

I'm looking into putting in a FASS pump but I'm worried about getting something in the truck before I damage the PV44, local dealer has a Delpi replacment lift pump for $150 in stock and I'm looking at early next week to get the FASS delivered.

ORIGINAL: Rev800

...codes P0216...?

That's the VP44 death code.

Iwas lookin at my Dtc superchip manual and P0216 = fuel injector pump timing failure, P0234 = turbo boost limit exceeded, and P1693= Dct dected in companion JTEC mod ...... just thought y'all would like to know.

Another Update!

I just replaced the lift pump with the FASS system and installed a rebuilt VP44 injector pump. Truck now runs better than when I bought it!!! The dead pedal issue I was having is now gone and with the edge monitor I will be able to monitor my fuel pressure and hopefully avoid a future VP44 failure. I never did end up getting the VP44 tested as I couldn’t find anyplace to bench test it off the truck I just assumed it was toast.

When I turned in my old pump (core charge) they noticed the wire on the pump was nicked and told me not to tap this new wire as it will void warranty…he went on to say the pump is not designed to handle the Edge and I would be needing a new pump in short order if I reinstalled the Edge. I’d rather not grenade this pump and was wondering if anyone has had a VP44 failure using the Edge Juice.

Thanks again to everyone for your help!
