06 Tire size
Hello all, new poster here.
I just bought an 06 Mega Cab CTD and was looking to upgrade the tires as they just look to small to me. My problem is trying to find larger tires with a load rating E. What are others doing in the upgraded tire area? I want all terrain tires and would like to keep the stock rims.

Scroll down on the main (CTD) page and look for the thread titled "att: lifted trucks". There are a few pictures of other member’s trucks and the tire size / set up there running. There is even a picture of a Mega Cab (member mdeps) which really looks good.
As discussed in that thread if you go to a 34-35" tire (315 bfg's or my fav the 35/12.5/17 Toyos) you will also need to put a leveling kit on the front end.

I have 325/60's on 20 inches (Nitto Grapplers) and they are range D - which have a rating of 3195 lbs. per. Wondering why you want a higher rating - are you loading your truck over the max? The Mega Cab 4WD is rated to tow up to 12500 lbs, so with D's you're not exceeding their rating if you stay in your limit, and by itself (nothing dragging along) it is rated to about 8200 (load and truck) - so you're not exceeding D's rating with the truck fully loaded by itself. At 42 psi these tires have essentially no flex in the sidewalls (on 20's the sidewall isn't that tall anway - tall enough to keep from bending a rim in the rocks or curbs, but short enough to stay away from that annoying squishiness taller sidewalls get).
Load Range E tires are built differently - MUCH stiffer sidewall. I believe they actually have 10 ply's instead of 8 for a D-range tire. I've towed on 35" BFG A/T's and M/T's - fantastic tires. But, then towing same trailer, same tow rig on 35" E-rated tires (Toyo's, in this case) there's no comparison - way more stability and no bounce from the sidewall. Plus, E-rated tires are designed to run a very high air pressure - we would run 75psi all the way around when hauling our 8klb toy hauler.
I think D are fine for light towing, or for occasional heavy towing. But, if you're going to be routinely hauling more than about 5k lbs, E-range will be your best bet. Just my $0.02.

No leveling kit, I do have a slight rub on the front mud guard. I just have to put one more screw on each side to hold them back another 1/2" and no more rub. One guy told me I would have to put a stop on my stearing link but did not need it. I also have the fender liners on the back tires and the wheel flearings.
