I just got done swapping the fluids out of the diffs a couple of weeks back... went with red line 75W90 since I dont tow. seemed to coast alot farther after the install...

but one thing I discovered AFTER [:@] I did the swap was that Summit racing has a nice little pump that you can easily transfer the old fluids out of the diffs (I used a bottle type of pump which worked ok but could have used this pump from summit). last time I did it on my other ram I pulled the cover (my prefered method)... the only thing I'd recommend on the pump from summit would be someway of having a hook of some sort in the tube so you could direct the inlet all the way to the bottom. I ended up pushing the intake tube in such a way so it would be directed towards the bottom. I'm sure I didnt get it all out but it was pretty damn close as the fillup took exactly what the manual said it would.

anyway if you dont already have a pump, check out the one from summit.

I do need one, but the only summit around me is in the opposite direction I go home. . .been wating to stop by that place for a while.

I'm planning on pulling off the covers anyway so I can check out the carriers and make sure everything is fine after 32K.

I saw a pic of an 03 where the LSD worm gears actualy ate through the carrier. . .not a pretty picture, but the guy never complained that anything was wrong untill he pulled the cover off to change the fluid.

hey if your that close to summit racing... it should be your favorite stomping ground. I have to drive 135 miles to get to the closest one around here. usually the shipments out of Sparks NV get here the next day though and it's alot cheeper than driving the 270 mi round trip...

it's like a kid going into a candy store...

just to let you guys and gals know I changed out the axel engine and tranny fluids with this amsoil stuff. . .first impression. . .

woah, talking about an easy shifting NV5600 when I let of the fuel and push the clutch in the truck seems to roll noticably farther than with the stock fluid.

I'll have as much of a how to put up in the next few days if I can, but the pics are going to be limited since I was a dummy and accidently left my camera at my moms place[sm=boink3.gif][sm=chairshot.gif][sm=icon_beat.gif]

hey Drew,
the owners manual says the manual tranny does not require service. i have done the diffs with Mobile 1 and will do the T case soon, but i wasn't planning on doing the tranny. should i plan on doing the tranny for insurance sake? i don't want to run into a warrnaty issue if i have to take it in and they say i did something i should not have.

as for your pics, get your mom one of those nice padded creepers and let her play photographer with her son.

I was doing the tranny service as one of those better safe than sorry deals. plus you never know. I'm kinda glad I did dump the fluid, it shifts sooo much better. before it took a little effort to get into gear, esp 2-3. now it just glides

I got pics of the tranny. that one is easy, the axels are the hard ones. I actualy got greasy with those. . .atleast my hands are still nice and silky smooth[8D]

I can do some improvised pics to give guys an idea if they want to try this out. the one thing that helped out the most was this pump I picked up from autozone that fit quart and gallon jugs, made filling the tranny and axels a snap.

what is Dodge's feelings on using Ansoil verse what they are pushing across their counter?
I was given a [Auto for life] service agreement when I purchased my truck and was wondering If Ansoil would void that warranty?
because I have in the past taken the Oil I prefered to a Oil change and they would honor my request to use that but that was not at a Dealership.
second:can you list the names of the existing oil's that perform the best? I have heard rave reviews from mechanics on the Ole shell Delo-400
third:what is your feel on changing brands and type's of oil, viscosity or weights?

Ps: I can't wait to hear your reply Drew! Cuz your the Man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep rammin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Byrdman!!!!!!!!!

well. . .first of all the dealership cannot void your warranty as long as you are useing the correct oil, doesnt matter about manufacturer.

AMSoil will not void the warranty, infact it is by far better than what DC is pushing across the counter, but again, as long as the fluid you use meets or exceeds manufacturers recommendations there no problem. I used to use Delo-400, pretty good stuff, but to tell you the truith, this amsoil stuff has a different feel between my fingers, and even after washing my hands with go-jo it still wouldnt come off.

now on the weights, if you live in an area where it doesnt get that cold, staying with 15w-40 is ok, but if it gets cold in the winter, going to a 5w40 for the winter to help with initial start-up is ok.
