actually the 1st time I heard it came from a chevy dealer, then a frind of my that is a dodge salesman said he heard it. The chevy guy I kinda let go in one ear and out the other. I was going to order a chassis cab 07 with the 6.7 but when he old me that I decided to wait and see what brand motor is in it.
How do the 07 that are out now handle the low sulfer fuel? What will the 6.7 do if you use the low suler fuel?

the newer engines are designed to run the ULSD, if you run the LSD stuff thru the engine it will run fine, but it will clog the particulate filter quick.

DC is by no way going to drop the big C any time soon. DC knows they have a good thing going and arent about to drop it. Ford has WAY too much invested into International-Navistar and the same with GM and Isuzu who makes the duramaxie.

I just attempted to order a new 3500, 4x4, quad cab, Laramie from a local dealer last night. He said the 5.9 was no longer available, and the 6.7 was the only option. This was a fleet manager, and he mentioned that he couldn't pull up the 5.9 on the ordering system. I said no thanks, and walked. My gut tells me to wait and see how these engines prove themselves before I plunk down $40k+. Sooo..for me, that means either order a gasser (Power Wagon), or wait things out until say Spring or Fall. Unfortunately for Dodge, they will have to compete for my money against the new Chevy 2500HD's coming out next year.

as of the 4th of this month DC turned all 5.9's off. . .so it is officialy dead. Yet for some reason dealers can see the new 6.7's but cannot special order them yet.

Are you talking gas or diesel? FYI, 4-wheel and off-road mag., Jan '07, says the duramax is getting a new 6.6L diesel also.

If you plan to use the PW's equipment, it's worth it. If not, it's a waste of money.

As far as competing with the Chevy/GMC, I'm talking diesel. My main concern is that the Cummins is changing displacement and a new transmission. Also, does anyone have any opinion on how power programmers and other power upgrades are going to work with these new motors? I actually prefer the Cummins over the Duramax based on my personal research. And just how many of these motors are currently in service in the chassis cab and other commercial vehicles?

there are still alot of components that are being handed from the 5.9 to the 6.7L. durability should not be a question, as far as power upgrades I dont know. the ecm is new, there are a total of 5 injection events, you also have to deal with the EGR and the particulate filter and dumping alot of unburned fuel into the exhaust will not do well for that filter.

I know the programmers have a trick up their sleeve and can make some awsome power from this new engine, the over all question will be how.

I remember these same ?'s when the LS chevy motors came out. Everyone freaked because you "coldn't do anything to them." Give the aftermarket some time, there will be upgrades. Some may come quickly with some emission equipment removed, but they'll do it.

and a new transmission
Toyota has been using Aisin transmissions for years in their heavy duty trucks/box vans overseas. These should not prove to be a weak link. Also, it uses a 0.625:1 (man. is 0.79:1)overdrive which should increase gas mileage, unloaded anyways, on highways.
