Default 2006 Standard or Automatic

I would like to know if the 2006 auto is better and should i get one over the standard. I have had a standard for 7 years and i need to give my left leg a break!

I guess it would depend on how much hauling you do as the standard would be better for it. I don't ever haul anything, and I LOOOVVE my auto.

I am with usafr. I don't tow anything, don't even own a trailer. If you ask me, shifting gears manually sucks. I suppose if you do a lot of towing it is the only way to go though. I bought my 06 2500 CTD just for the heavy-duty qualities. I figure if it is meant to work like a horse pulling thousands of pounds and rack up the miles, mine will be running strong for a heck of a long time. I just had to have an auto for the sheer luxury. I love this truck and that auto trans....

I have owned standards all my life and they are great. Less to maintain, better for towing and better for driving in the mountains.

That being said, I love my auto. I don't work my truck that hard and the auto is much more comfortable to drive.

keep in mind, if your going to do any mods to the engine, eventually you might need to some tranny work. Especially if its a auto. I've heard that the standards are bullet proof

If I recall the 02-03 had the RE 47. The 06's have the updated & improved RE 48.

DBLR, you are almost right, the 48RE came out in 03, 02's still had the 47RE.

I like my stick, but I also have the old NV5600, not the G56. but it still boils down to what you want to do with the truck. towing, get the stick. not towing alot or not at all go with the auto and 3.73's.
