I Guess it who You Talk With ? I Spoke with My Dealer also ,He Said that is a old wise tale ! The Newer Engines Do Not Need a Break In For Syn Oil ? My 2 cents is This , I run a fleet of Trucks for years (stockyards) Most Dodge i Think We have two fords On Right Now , ALL The Trucks Where Bought New ! Ran About 1,000 Miles on Them Droped The Crapy Min Oil Out Of Them And Filled Up With New Long Rider Oil.
I Have Never had any Probs So Far ? I Have Been Running Hard For Years This Way ! Long Rider has Said To Wait 1000,2000 Before The New Oil , But Says it Would Not Hurt The Engine in any way ! But If it Started To Use oil to Run Min Oil again For a 1,000 Miles To Stop Any Oil Use ! But With That Said i Have Done This for Years Many New Trucks ! And Have Never had any prob as of date ,Also Back In The 80s
I Used Amsoil That was All There Was Back Then ! Dam i'm Getting Old !! And Gents my Trucks are Running over 200,000 miles With Out a Hick Up ! No Oil Use, Change Oil Every 10,000 miles Run donaldson Filters And K&N Some Times Amsoil ! No Diff i Can See

Yes you can change to Synthetic Oil on a gas engine any time you like but we are talking about diesel engines here not gas.

Once more, For Your Information, Cummins has it posted on their web site "do not switch to Synthetic oil until you have 20,000 miles on the engine." Who knows more about a Cummins engine then Cummins.
BTW many here who give advice work on diesels every day, my self I drove long haul for a few years and I will listen to the people who work on them and not the information you got from the people who sold you your oil dealership.

My God Kid , i Have Diesel Trucks (17) as of Now ! i was Just Saying what i do Not What You Should Do ? So What is Up with All The Neg BS! Again I Spoke To Corp Dodge And My Dealer(dodge) They All Said 1,000 And 2,000 Miles was Safe To Change Over to Syn , Just As i Stated Before i Have in Many Cases done So With out any Prob ! I'm Just Telling You What Dodge Said to Me Not Some BS ADD From Some BS FORUM ! I was Nice About Every Thing So Far ,So PLEASE lets Not Push It ! Lets Say It This Way ! Do what You think Is Right ! Ether Way Will Not Hurt Your Engine ! So Enjoy your Truck Run what ever You Wish To Run ,And For How Long ! I Thought This Was a place To Help Out and to let every one Know what Is Working The Best in your Truck ! No One Is Making You Do Any Thing So With That Said Have a Great Day And Chill Out ! Also i See you Saying Some Crap about The Dealership ??? Well I Have used the oil for some time now, we have it in 15 trucks ,we like it so much we bought a dealership on it ? So what in The Heck Is Wrong With That ? Sounds to Me Like You Have a REAL PROB ! (with life) The Two Trucks That Makes 17 Still Has Min Oil In Them (waiting On The 1000-2000 miles) Then i Will Change Them Over To Syn Long Rider ! i Guess The Best way to Take Care Of This is PM Me We Sure Can Meet Up and Talk About Your Thoughts On What I'm Doing Wrong .

My 2 cents is 3000 miles, Only because it took me that long to make up my mind on what oil and filter to use.
And boy do I have to get used to seeing black oil even after you change it.[:@] I guess it is up to you, What ever makes you fell better. Oil is chep compared to engine work.....

Hey Be Carefull on Your 2 cents worth Around Here ! I Said 1-2000 miles your just 1grand more then I , You Will Be Slow Roasted ! Hahah
Don't Let Him Bull You around ! I Do Agree With You About What ever Makes you feel Good ! We are running About 150,000 miles a year on the trucks (HARD DUSTY MILES) We Also Run AFE Filters Don't have a dealership on That Yet ! And BULLY DOG Trip ! MPG Went up 5-8 mpg ! and the power is OUTSTANDING !
