Default Newbie checking in ...

Just bought an 06 Megacab 4x4 with the Cummins, auto trans, 4:10 rear. Absolutely love it in every way. Rides like a cadilac with power to spare. I also bought the BullyDog triple Dog and love the power that it delivers. The Crazy Larry tune is insane and im curious how far off the overhead mileage meter is to actually doing it by hand because its saying im getting 25mpg at 70 mph with the tailgate down (23 with it up). This cant be correct can it? Its also showing 19 around town. Im thinking its not too far off because the gas gauge isnt really dropping that fast either. It does drop when I mat the throttle though LOL.

Been surfing the forums for a while now and have to go to bed, its 2:10 AM but man is there some usefull info here. Thanks for a great forum!

Yokel,

Congrats and welcome!

I got as high as 21 out of the box highway (18 overall mix). Then I started modding, exhaust, programmer, tires, etc. Now I'm down to 18-18.5 highway and 16.5-17 city/highway mix. 15-16 if I run it hard.

This is prob. one of the best times to own a dodge. They’ve always had power but they didn’t always have the "spit and polish" they do know.

My dads Ram (and my uncles, and my cousins, etc.) were affectionately referred to as "the rattle trap", and my moms RamCharger was one stiff ride. [sm=scared09.gif]

Again,

Congrats and welcome!

Welcome to DF... Congrats on the truck. The OH comp is junk if you ask me... when you use a programer, the comp wont know about the extra fuel you dumping to make the power so it'll be pretty far off like what your seeing. w/o a programmer, it's not very accurate. I've found over time mine has gone farther & farther off from the actual mileage. currently w/o a box in place, i'm getting a 3.5~3.8 mpg difference between the overhead (reads high) and the actual mileage

Rattletrap LOL. My dad also has a diesel ram - 2005 Ram quad cab 4x4 but in the 3500 series with the Cummins. He got me started on wanting a Ram, its his fault hehe. Actually I can tell a difference driving his and mine. His seems a bit harsher over bumps and im assuming its due to a stiffer suspension in the 3500 series. You are correct on Dodge being refined and also the time to buy. I have owned Dodges in the past and never had mechanical problems with them, but they did not have the spit and polish like you were saying, until now. I just traded an SRT-4 in on the truck. I know alot of people hate them but I have to say it was one of the better vehicle I have owned. It was an absolute blast to drive, zero problems other than the occasional weird look (im 36) because of the wing but I just needed a truck. Anyway, here is a picture of it (I hope its ok to post pics in here - they have image tags LOL)...

Other than the BullyDog no, probably not. Its going to be a tow vehicle. The one in the garage eventually will be for fun! The only other thing I would like is possibly an exhaust. It looks like it has a 4" on it, but there are a few diesel trucks around town that sound pretty mean and I would like to know what exhaust they have.

I just switched from an Edge to a TST box and love it... have never experience the bullydog stuff though, maybe someday. when you get the BD isntalled, make sure you dont go much beyond the 60~75hp range w/o upgrading the tranny & torque converter... they will start slipping in stock form.

if your going to tow... you also might consider an upgraded air filter & a free flowing exhasut. I have the Magnaflow 30" setup with an AFE stage 2 setup (proguard filter), the combination lost me 1~1.5 mpg, go conservative on either end if you want to keep some mileage. EGT's drop pretty quickly on cooldown with both in the truck. takes less than 1~2 minutes to get down below 300 deg on the egt's.

oh yeah, another good piece for towing is the ATS Arc Flow intake... gives ~55ftlbs of tq at 1775 rpms... check it out at http://www.atsdiesel.com/ATSWebsite/...InManifold.asp I have one and it's pretty slick.
