interesting data...
well for those who know me, you know I want mileage & ***** to the walls at the same time. well, some good news from my current setup. drove 508 miles, all hiway and managed 17.3 mpg. this is 2nd only to the tank that logged 17.5 mpg up in Washington/Oregon which had the stock airbox on. the current setup is...
AFE Stage 2 with the Pro Guard filter
TST set on 1 for timing only
ATS Arc Flow intake
30" magnaflow muffler.
The 508 miles included the mix of 16/8 that we all refer to as Drew Brew... I was pretty supprised by the data seeing how with the AFE intake on there I'm usually 1 mpg down from what I get with the stock airbox. For those of you who are reading this and laughing and thinking to yourself... "I get that in my sleep", go have a look at my gallery & my truck setup... 33", leveling kit & the tonneau cover. since putting the tires on, mileage has been averaging 14.5~15.5 pretty consistantly with the AFE on there so this is a supprise for me.
anyways... just thought some might want this info...

I'll ask you because you're a moderator.
Would you believe me if I told you my 95' Ram, gets 27-29 mpg on the highway? I believe my tank is 39 gallon, plus whatever she'll hold right up to the top of the filler tube, (minus the check ball.........lol). I had to drive from Binghamton, NY, to Gang Mills, NY, every day for 3 solid weeks plus a few days. Each way is 93 miles from my apt. Five days is 930 miles. I drive long roads with efficiency in mind, and the truck is barely audible at 69-71 mph. When I went to fill up, the truck would take 32 gallons every time. Milage was always 930-940 on the odometer. I run LT- 305/70/16's.
Math was never my subject. I majored in lunch and study hall. lol.
I really do believe that I have fine tuned my Ram to the point where, I swear my ears get in a trance, and all I listen to is the motor. How many of you listen to the turbo, and have developed a foot with finese? I have played drums for 30+ years so I have great sensitivity in my toes. Toes that get mini charlie horses...... I always called it "Jon Bonahm Toe".....LOL. One of many things that I like to do is to barely press the pedal a little more than cruise control is holding it. Just to the point where the turbo winds up enough to hear it, but there's been no major change in engine noise or even RPMs for that matter. I use that exact technique when preparing to pass someone, or the base of a hill.
Now, call me a freak but, how many of you have a favorite road that suits one need or another. Curves, straight, level, etc. I waste fuel when I get near a hill. I have never had any truck, gas or diesel, that has been able to keep up with my Dodge as far as wot hill climbing. My truck is 8700 lbs as is. I may get one of those little "fast and furious" cars behind me, but I swear the smoke get so thick, the guy has to back off because his engine suffered from the very same thing my momma told me I had. Oxygen Deprivation............lol. j/k about me, no, really.
Anyway, someone with the know how can tell me what I really am getting. Ok, take care guys.

Yeah I'd beleive it easily... your motor is one of the 12v motor if im not mistaken and I believe those were 100% tow hauler type of motors. The thing though with the newer motors is they are designed for more HP which robs fuel economy. If you look at all of the little gassers that were built for fuel effeciency, all of them were super light and had a greater amount of torque when compared to the HP rating. I am needless to say jealous of 900+ miles to a tank.... I read somewhere a guy with an 90 gallon aux tank had a range of 2200~2400 miles, I bet you could be filling up once a quarter with your mileage... lol
Steve, I'm still totally stock except for the da "Brew" and my last tank got 17.4 (hand calc)which included 4-130 mile round trips at 75/80mph and some in town. I do have a bunch of concrete in the bed for weight but I don't think it's much over 5-600 lbs. I have ordered the Rotteck chip so I'l see what it does.
I'm all stock. Last week (I burn about 1 tank a week) I drove easy all week and achieved 18.6. This was mixed highway and stop and go, but more highway. Many of the highways I run are state roads with 55 mph speed limits. I run 60. If I run 65 it will maintain my current over head reading. If I run 70 it will start going backwards. I wish I had a "7th" grear. BTW 7500 miles on truck.
Steve,
I'm gald to hear that you have now gotten your mpg back up close to where it was when the whole truck was stock. With it having 33 inch tires & lift on it I think that is Great mpg. Keep up the good work and may be it will go up more
I'm curious to see how the aero muffler will affect mileage as well as the low end torque. someone reported no change in mileage with it so it'll be interesting to see what I come up with. We just got back from our trip... about 900~1000 miles since Friday (wedding in LA area) and I'll be filling up pretty soon since i'm below 1/8th of a tank... the last tank on the way back I ran the TST hp on 2 & tq on 3 and i'd guess mileage dropped down to the high 15's (to be expected).
well I think i'm getting close to what I want out of my truck... gets resonable mileage & hauls *** when I need it to. [sm=gears.gif][sm=icon_rock.gif]
to those who are getting the 17's~18's... i'd be up in the high 19's or even higher if it werent for the tires & leveling kit (lost 2~2.5 mpg)... the amount of power gained surely would have bumped it up pretty good... currenly it screams pretty well with the tst in econo mode...

Man what am I doing wrong?
You guy's all seem to be getting at least mid to high teens where my best seems to be around 15. Do you guy's drive like snails or something? When I hit the highway, I tend to push things up in the mid to high 70 mph range. Do you think this is why I'm so much lower than you guy's? If that's the case, then so be it, I don't see myself changing my driving habits any time soon, but if it's something else I'd really like to know !!

The all the times I have checked my MPG, when I go over 65 MPH is when the MPG falls off and off, I run 72-73 mph and get 22.3 - 21.6 all the time ever time. I have a 06 Mega cab 2wd W/ the triple dog. Before the TDP I was getting 17.8 - 18.3 mpg. This is only on the highway.
I'll be honest, I cruise at 80 mph whenever I get the chance, but to think that that is the sole reason for a 3-5 mpg drop seems a bit much for me. And I have no clue what Diesel Demon did to his truck to get DOUBLE what I'm getting AND be able to retain the title of " St. Soot " on top of it.
MAN ..... am I that much of a lead foot, or do you think it could be something else that I'm missing?
